Cultivating Community Engagement: Salesia Smith-Gordon Launches Books & Convo Club
As President of the Palm Beach County Sheree Davis Cunningham Black Women Lawyers Association (SDCBWLA), Salesia Smith-Gordon, Esq., proudly launched the Books & Convo Club. This initiative encourages members to read for pleasure, rather than just for work. The club provides a space for relaxation and intellectual enrichment, where members can engage with literature in a casual yet meaningful way.
Federal Magistrate Shaniek Maynard chairs the club. The inaugural book selection was “Lovely One” by Ketanji Brown Jackson, the first Black woman on the U.S. Supreme Court. The club’s first book review took place on October 29th and marked the beginning of many more thoughtful discussions to come.
The Books & Convo Club meets monthly. This gives members a chance to unwind and explore thought-provoking books. The initiative focuses on selecting works by Black women authors. This aims to spotlight diverse perspectives and foster enriching conversations. Each meeting provides a relaxed atmosphere where members can share their insights and reflections on the books they’ve read.
Through this initiative, SDCBWLA hopes to strengthen connections among its members. The club also celebrates the literary contributions of Black women. Members are encouraged to engage with works that challenge, inspire, and entertain. The Books & Convo Club is more than just about reading—it’s about building a community of thoughtful women. This platform allows for personal growth and open dialogue, with a shared passion for literature and empowerment.
