A Historic Moment: Honoring Leadership and Legacy
January 14, 2025, marked a momentous occasion at the swearing-in ceremony for Palm Beach County State Attorney, Alexcia Cox. Members of the Sheree Davis Cunningham Black Women Lawyers Association (SDCBWLA) proudly attended, adorned in the organization’s signature hue of purple, to support and celebrate this groundbreaking achievement.
A member of SDCBWLA, Alexcia Cox, made history as the first Black person and the first woman to hold this prestigious position. To commemorate the day, SDCBWLA President Attorney Salesia Smith-Gordon presented a profoundly symbolic gift: Norman Rockwell’s The Problem We All Live With. This iconic painting depicts 6-year-old Ruby Bridges walking courageously to school under the protection of U.S. Marshals during the height of the Civil Rights Movement.
The painting, rendered on canvas, serves as a powerful reminder of Ruby’s bravery in the face of adversity. Similarly, Alexcia’s historic role represents both progress and responsibility. We are confident that, like Ruby, Alexcia will meet challenges with unyielding strength, making bold, principled decisions while standing tall with courage and conviction.
